The Angler's Ace provides a cost effective way of making your own knotted tapered leaders. If you wish to fine-tune your leaders to your own specs, then this is the tool that can help you make it happen.
Additional benefits of the blood knot are the use of the tag ends for adding a strike indicator, extra weight,or another fly if the tag end is long enough. It has a lot of potential.
When adding new tippet to a leader, most fishermen prefer to use the blood knot. Although difficult to tie by hand, it's strength and ability to connect tippet and leader in a straight line outweighs that problem.
With the Angler's Ace it's quick and easy to connect that new tippet and get back to fishing.
Included with the Angler's Ace, and located on the end opposite the logo, is a lube patch which is highly recommended to be used with this device to make a strong, easily formed knot.
This lube will greatly reduce the friction and abrasion developed when knotting monofilament. Using saliva or water is not sufficient lube to form a strong blood knot.
Attempts to join leaders that differ in diameter by more than .003 of an inch should not be done. Below are some connections that have been successful.
17lb/test (0.016) to 12 lb/test (.013) -
12 lb/test (0.013) to 8 lb/test (.010) -
8lb/test (.010) to 3x -
3x to 4x and 4x to 5x, etc.
The heavier the gauge of line, the less revolutions (wraps) are needed by the Angler's Ace disk in constructing your knot. Lighter gauge material requires additional revolutions. For example, 17lb/test needs only 4 revolutions while 5lb/test needs at least 6.
PLEASE USE THE LUBE!
